Severe Weekend? OHX Thinks So
« on: September 09, 2010, 08:14:07 AM »
This is the first time in a while OHX has actually put the text "Severe T'storms" in the 7 day track. And from the looks of it, we could be quite unstable Saturday and have a round of severe storms move in causing hail and damaging winds. I assume we also have a slight tornado risk with the remnants of Hermine passing close by, nothing more than 2% though.

The SPC only has a SEE TEXT alert in place, but they said by tomorrow it could be upgraded to slight across parts of the mid south and TN Valley.

 ::wow::

Ok I'm awake....did somebody say severe?    If not, just wake me up when the weather gets interesting around here again.

HUN had mentioned the possibility of "limited SVR" in their early AM update, but have since ditched any mention of severe for this front altogether. Not saying it won't happen, but the shear is weak at best, and there won't be too much instability around.

Still time for things to change.
Don't knock the weather. If it didn't change once in a while, nine out of ten people couldn't start a conversation.

From morning AFD...

Quote
WARM SECTOR TNGT W/SCT SHOWERS AND A FEW STORMS. COLD FRONT WL
MOVE INTO MID TN ON SATURDAY. SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS LIKELY.
GFS IS MORE UNSTABLE WITH CAPES TO 3000 J/KG AND LI TO -10 IN THE
AFTERNOON. SHEAR/CLOUD COVER MAY BE LIMITING FACTORS. ISO SEVERE
STORMS REMAIN POSSIBLE...WITH DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE HAIL.

Both the NAM and GFS keep the shear profiles down below 30 kts. The NAM does put some 40-45 kts in eastern KY for Saturday afternoon and evening. I may need to keep my eyes to the sky at the WKU @ Kentucky game.

It's been awhile I believe since Kentucky has played in the rain, they could get a good opportunity tomorrow.

MRX put us under a flash flood warning for 0.20 inches of rain. That is very unlike them.
Winter 2009-10 Snowfall: 11.5 in. :)
Winter 2010-11 Snowfall: 15.5 in. :)
Winter 2011-12:
1/12      Dusting

Nice squall line ran through eastern KY yesterday, put out blanket warnings for it and it brought 50-55 mph winds were I was. Rain did move out before the game...so you can imagine how that turned out for my Hilltoppers.
