I am still seeing that area of tight, but weak rotation on the very southern fringe near Mt. Pleasant...

Some damage and an injury reported at the Maury County Fair due to the flying debris...that storm complex has forced OHX to extend the warning southward to the AL border.

All of the local stations with the exception of Fox 13 provided wall-to-wall coverage during the overnight hours. I gues everyone was excited about some marginally active weather.

That's really sad...it was...as you said...nothing more than marginally severe...if even that. Its not because its been a while since we've had some active weather though...everybody has been doing this for years now...except Fox 13.

A lot don't seem to like the "No Hype" approach 13 has taken in the last 5 years...with the promos blasting the other stations' weather coverage...but the fact of the matter is they are exactly right with most of what they're trying to say. 13 is almost always on the air for tornado warnings and significant severe thunderstorms...as they should...but there's no reason otherwise to do anything but perhaps an occasional cut-in for everything else...and most of the time the crawl works just fine...and that is what 13 sticks to...and it works just fine and I have no problems with it.

The fact of the matter is...sadly...a lot of the mets on Memphis TV...though not all...just don't simply have either the tools or knowledge to sustain credible wall-to-wall coverage for hours on-end...and it especially shows in the more marginal situations where you don't have the multiple reports or the classic radar signatures. Except on 5 anyway it seems nobody wants to show anything but reflectivity on radar these days...and of course we all know 5 has its own issues.

That said...which really only matters to those of us chatting on weather forums...the point remains the generally "unnecessary" wall-to-wall coverage going on is part of the problem when the real threats arrive...as its just causing the public to increase their complacency. People already complain enough when there are actual tornadoes on the ground...extending it to just ordinary summer thunderstorms is just making it much worse.

i agree with you 100 percent. my wife is already getting a bad case of complacency. i cant  get her to take cover during a nader warning none the less boomer warning. she thinks half of the warning are unesscersary most of the time. if i ever see a storm with a nice couplet hoook echo headin towards us and channell 5 has the vtl above 8.0 i have to drag her to take cover. there is time do do wall to wall coverage. but marginal events the crawl works just fine.

Nashville does pretty well when it comes to providing the public information during severe events. Most channels are showing and explain radar reflectivity and base velocity. They can do 3D scan which may not be perfect but it pretty easy for people to understand that are watching. Overall "most" here do a well job. I tend to watch Lisa Patton..
