This above-average pattern should continue through much of September. Doesn't mean its going to be approaching 100 every day...we'll be slowly backing off...but of course at the same time the averages are backing off too. Would expect an overall drier pattern to continue as well unless there is tropical involvement...which will help beginning next week with lower humidity values.

The 120 hour through 180 timeframe will be our best shot here in Middle Tennesse to get down in the lower 60's at night. Heck the 6Z DGEX is even showing lows in the 50's for that time frame. But needless to say that will not be a pattern breaker just a temp relief from heat. Patients is the key right now....

With the drier pattern and lower humidity...60-degree lows are certainly possible...especially over that way.

I agree that September could be torchy, like Memphis Weather said, not 100 every day, but still consistent 90's is entirely possible(something like Sept 98,Sept 07 ).  We probably won't go real relief till October.  The only way I see us getting real relief in September is(tropical system, stalled out front).  Heat Ridges don't die easy.
Starting in October the northern stream will start to have more of a  effect on us, and we start to go more into the battleground mode, we talked about in the Winter thread.  Temps. could be still above average the second half of October, and the month of November.  If they are above average. I think they will be closer to average, then what we have been.

What does Winter 11-12 hold??
The NAO,PNA,PDO,MJO, etc.. and Storm Track will decide.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NASHVILLE TN
315 PM CDT MON AUG 23 2010

.SHORT TERM...SPRAWLING HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM OVER THE GREAT LAKES
AND OHIO RIVER VALLEY, PROVIDED MIDDLE TENNESSEE WITH DRY
NORTHEASTERLY FLOW AND TEMPERATURES VERY CLOSE TO NORMAL FOR TODAY.
THIS WAS A NICE BREAK FROM THE PERSISTENTLY ABOVE-NORMAL TEMPS WE`VE
SEEN FOR SO MUCH OF THIS SUMMER.

STILL LOOKS LIKE A VERY DRY FORECAST FOR THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS, WITH
THE ONLY CHANCE FOR RAIN COMING IN THE FORM OF SOME ISOLATED AFTERNOON
THUNDERSTORMS ON WEDNESDAY OVER SOME NORTHERN AREAS, AS A DEW
POINT FRONT PUSHES IN FROM THE NORTHWEST, IN RESPONSE TO A
DEEPENING EASTERN U.S. TROUGH.

.LONG TERM...EXPECT MAX TEMP AT NASHVILLE TO HIT 90 ON WEDNESDAY,
AHEAD OF DEW POINT FRONT. HOWEVER, AFTER THAT, EXPECT SEVERAL DAYS WITH
MAX TEMPS IN THE MIDDLE 80S (WITH LOWER 80S PLATEAU) AND DEW
POINTS MAINLY IN THE LOWER AND MIDDLE 50S.

WITH SUCH LOW DEW POINTS ROLLING IN FOR THE LATTER PART OF THE
WEEK, EXPECT NIGHTTIME LOWS TO DROP TO BELOW-NORMAL READINGS FOR
THIS TIME OF YEAR, AND WE COULD BE LOOKING AT LOWS IN THE MIDDLE
AND UPPER 50S IN MOST AREAS AT SUNRISE ON FRIDAY.

A GRADUAL WARM-UP TAKES PLACE OVER THE WEEKEND INTO EARLY NEXT
WEEK, AS SURFACE HIGH PUSHES TO THE EAST COAST AND FLOW BECOMES
SOUTHERLY AGAIN.

Another shot of "cooler" weather coming in this weekend.  GFS and Euro showing it on the 12z suite today.

12z GFS forcasting a low of 53 at KMEM next Sunday morning. The UHI may not allow for this low at the airport, but regardless, me likey! Highs for the weekend could conceivably be in the low 80's, mid 80's more likely though here.  ;D

Yeah I think one day this weekend we will struggle to get out of the 70's.  Today's 12z suite was a little cooler than yesterday's.
