lol 12z GFS has temps back up to 100 plus by the WEd-thurs time frame with small chances for rain. However, low temps look to be in the 70's rather than than around 80, which tells me that the drier air already in place will remain. This means lower heat indexes. Late in the period, low temps would be in the mid 60's. Also, guidance has been too warm lately.

I will be glad to see this topic closed once and for all.

in the 2007 heatwave, what was the consecutive amount of days that nashville hit 90 or above. i thought we had broken the record but meteorologist say that the record is 31 days and it wasn't 2007.

Heat deaths 17, 18 and 19 have now been confirmed in Memphis, well exceeding the 2007 total.

According to OHX... (http://www.srh.noaa.gov/ohx/?n=otherrecords)

Quote
Most consecutive days, maximum temperature at least 90 degrees: 34, July 26 - August 28, 2007

Memphis really didn't challenge it that year, FYI, but the record for 95+ was shattered by several days. Funny enough, if not for that one single day where the high was only 89 last month...Memphis would have completely obliterated their 90+ record this year originally set back in 1980.

Today would have been day 70 of 90+ days in a row...whereas the record from 1980 is 54. Wouldn't even have been close for the record...just one day where it fell one degree short! Perhaps we'll set a record for 89+ days  ;D

yeah thats sad kevin. the one thing that i remember bout the 07 heat, it just seemed more drier to me and i think it was. i know it was hot. but that goes to show you this humidity thrown in is more dangerous i think.  107 temp. with a heat index of 107 feels alot better than a temp of 100 with a heat index of 120 i sure you of that. ::hot::

We finally broke our streak of 90+ degree days. High today was only 88 thanks to rain this morning and clouds on and off throughout the afternoon. Hopefully we can make a big dent in the deficit over the next 3-4 days.

98 so far Today at KMEM. A little mixing so HI values have only reached 106...but that is just above the danger level. Looks like mid to upper 90s for most of the upcoming forecast period and heat advisory criteria. Optimistic we may avoid warning conditions with enough mixing and keep them below 110.

EDIT...Make that 99. Briefly touched it at 1:40 PM.

MEG is posting a Heat Watch for Saturday. That's not too bad of a move...as the nearby front that day will likely pool dewpoints...so if one day were to potentially hit warning criteria of 110+ it would be Saturday.

The 100 degree high ties a record set in 1995 and 1980.

We now have an Excessive Heat Warning for today and tomorrow. The very brief break from the dangerous heat was nice.

Pretty thick Cu field already developing...this may prevent forecast highs or HI values from being hit...and could very well spark off convection shortly. We'll see what happens...

New guidance suggests next week should not be as hot as currently and previously thought. If correct...mid 90s would be the norm but also with low dewpoints in the 60s...so HI values would be near a non-issue. Hopefully it holds...would suggest after this weekend the need for any advisories and certainly warnings is over...
