Cool Pics from 1993 Superstorm!
« on: April 04, 2010, 02:20:31 PM »
I found these while I was doing some spring cleaning. We only took about 15 pictures total, most of our record of the storm is on VHS tape, and needs to be transferred to DVD. These were all taken by my dad, I was 5 when this storm hit.

This first pic is when the snow had just started falling on the evening of March 12:

and here is a pic from a few hours later of some heavier snow. I don't have any pics of the extremely heavy thundersnow that occurred that night, but we do have some video:

here is a picture of our backyard. The snow was actually not as deep here (if you can believe it) because it drifted against the front side of the house (more on that later), average backyard depth was about 22 inches, also note the fallen tree in the background:

another picture of the fence and the doghouse in the backyard, look at how the snow is plastered against one side of all the tree trunks:

This is one of my favorites, these are the steps leading off the deck in the back. We didn't dare walk out on the deck with the weight of all the snow:

Here is the drifting against the front of the house. The bottom of the windows are about 30 inches from the ground. These drifts are nearly 5 feet at their highest point:

From the inside:

My mother took it upon herself to shovel the driveway, even though we don't own a snow shovel. That's a sand shovel she's using:

Making some progress:

This is my favorite picture, shows just how high the snow was piled up from her shoveling. Also notice the car to the right of her head, absolutely buried! It took the city 5 days to plow the streets, so all that shoveling was really for nought:

Weirdly, we never lost power during the storm, but our water didn't work, so we couldn't shower, and we had to melt snow and dump it into the toilets to flush them:

OHHHHH COME ON DWAG,,,,,, NOW I WANT WINTER BACK AGAIN LOL...... Just kidding, although I really, REALLY want another big one like that.... No more 4-5 inch teasers, just a BIG one next year. I'm really jealous haha, just playing.

The third picture from the top looks like sand piles to someone who didn't know what it was/ever seen it that deep before.
