2/14 - 2/15 Valentine's Day Clipper
« on: February 09, 2010, 11:11:40 AM »
Both the 2/9 12Z GFS and last night's ECMWF show a clipper type system passing through northern Kentucky on 2/14-15. Based on QPF numbers from the GFS it could give us about 1-2 inches of snow. Not a biggie at this point but something to watch. If the wave/low were to drop further south than progged we would see significantly more snow...

Not bad. Not a whole lot of moisture coverage, but that's to be expected of a clipper system. Maybe in a few days the models will get a better hold on moisture to work with, but for right now the track is pretty good.

tell you what. dont know what this clipper is going to do. but if the gfs has anything to do with  most of this month, it says there is going to be multiple chances for winter weather coming up down the road.  at least on the 18z that is ::fingerscrossed::

Not just on the 18z.  The 12z also looked very interesting around the 19th, and again around the 25th.  ::pondering::

During the past couple of days, i've been kinda bummed out about the system on Friday getting shunted down to the south pole.  But, after looking at the last couple of GFS runs, i say FORGET the system on Friday.  What might come later could be much more exciting.  Especially given the fact that a couple of days ago, the long range charts looked kinda bleak.

Hopefully, winter will go out with a BANG !   ::snowman::

2/10 0Z ECMWF is a little further south with the clipper...therefore better for us.

I'm watching this one more so then Friday's one. OHX has 20% for the Friday one and 30% for this one. I expect Sunday's chances to increase...

Even though more snow the better here.  It is time to go for and support Nashville with this next systems.  Could be a potent for a clipper, and further south the better.  Clippers can be good for the short lived potent snowfalls.

Though I'm personally not very confident right now (Clippers are notorious for going off-forecast in a various number of ways...both good and bad)...I think this is the system with the best shot to bring a couple of inches of new snow to the state...
