Rain sleet and snow in downtown/east nashville.

Sink a little further south 850s. If this sucker would just progress eastward a little... we could get back into subfreezing 850s

Combining this event and the last event, if Middle TN had avoided a warm nose (although this one was predicted), I have no doubt BNA would have at least a foot of snow on the season, probably more.

Probably. I was quite surprised to see the inch that fell here. Be nice if it changes back tomorrow.

1/2"-3/4" of snow here now and heavier returns are about to push in.

Well, with the road conditions as bad as they are tonight, with all the wrecks, etc., they would have to bank on things improving significantly between now and tomorrow morning for schools to open.  I would venture to guess that many of the backroads will still be slushy at best, though I bet the main roads will mostly just be wet.

Anyway, it makes more sense that pre-emptively closing the night before snow is in the forecast like they've done before when little happened.

At least, something actually happened to lead them to the decision.

yes, the roads are pretty bad out this way
I just would have thought they would have waited until the morning, we have a steady rain now washing it all away.
I was expecting a late start, a best a late call.

Precipitation has stopped out here, at least for the moment.  That's better than the cold rain.  We picked up about 1/2 inch... which seems to about par for this winter.

Coming from an area that has a lot more harsh weather in the winter, I am always surprised how most of these school districts can't wait until 5-6 AM to make decisions about schools. This could be another example of schools being out for little or no reason.

The problem waiting til 5-6 am is that parents couldn't find somewhere to take their kids or get someone to watch them on that little of short notice...

I agree (with the exception of a 4"+ event maybe). Otherwise, it is a total fail. Almost as much as when a certain Middle TN county school delayed school for 2 hours when the snow in fact was scheduled to start later in the day during the last event. If they would check the forecast closely they'd know.

Well, here in Wilson County our elementary schools start at 7:15 so the bus picks up at 6:20.  I kinda would like to know before I have to wake up 3 crabby boys. I expect that we will go late, running out of snow days here!

Thinks we may have sleet mixed in with some larger flakes...or it could just be the bigger flakes hitting objects outside making it sound like sleet.

The bigger flakes are noisy. That's the 4th report of that.
