Interesting that Shelby County Schools are closed tomorrow.

Fayette and Tipton are closed. A church pastor friend on facebook posted a pic of his commute to church this morning on Reid Hooker Rd and it was a solid sheet. I suspect that alot of the not so well traveled roads in the county are still bad, and things re-freeze tonight. The morning commute may still be bad in some places. But tomorrow's 43F may solve alot of those issues. Desoto is open.

Man... The kids have had more school closing this year than I had in my entire school career!  I remember in high school there was 3 inches of snow on the ground falling very heavily and around noon they finally decided to let us go home! I tell you, up hill both ways!

Desoto is fine though, I can see Shelby in some areas as more sleet fell up there.  All should be well by Tuesday though.

I hear ya, bro. Dont get me started... we didnt have air conditioning in school til I was in 7th grade. We had a huge fan mounted on the wall, we opened the windows and we sucked it up. I see these kids these days getting out of school for the heat.  ::hot::

What's being done now that wasn't when I was in school is the pre-emptive school closing, when schools close if snow is even in the forecast.

I wonder if that indicates that forecasts are actually more accurate and reliable now than they were 20 years ago.

why was there such an huge temperature contrast betwen northern Tn/Southern Ky, from Midddle Tn, between yesterday Morning to afternoon and to even this morning?

clarksville was sitting around 4 degrees yesterday morning, while nashville was at 12, and during the afternoon nashville was 38, while northern Tn was in the upper 20's?
even this morning, nashville was at 19, while there were single digits in the northern parts of Tn and southern Ky.

But it seemed like, THAT COLD AIR DIDN'T GO ALL THE WAY TO LOUISVILLE? Southern Ky, was like 5 degrees colder then northern Ky?

How come there was this small area of cold air?

The effects of snowcover.

I don't believe they had much snow in Louisville.  It's been the coldest in areas that received the most snow during the Friday/Friday night system.

The urban heat island effect in Nashville offsets that a bit.  So, that's why the temperatures haven't gone as low here as other areas of Middle TN who have snow cover.

Yes, snow and ice provide excellent radiational cooling,.
