Ok in my end of Macon County, I measured 5 inches on my car... however my car was not out in it the entire time.  I measured 8 inches in my front yard.  At my uncle's house, I stepped into a snow drift that was to my knee and I wasn't at the bottom of it yet.

The roads here are really slick.  Heard of alot of churches canceling tomorrow.

6" on this side of the county. One snow drift in my backyard was up to a foot and I didn't know it at the time...so you can tell how it ended. haha

Whiteout conditions around 4:00PM in Dayton, TN. Heavy Snow

 ;)

I wouldn't call that whiteout conditions.  Looks like you have 1/4 mile visibility there.  If it were a true whiteout, you wouldn't see the trees and that hill up ahead.  It would be difficult to see more than a few feet ahead of you.

That looks like the rates I was seeing at most, and I would call it moderate snow, IMO.

Great vis satellite pic of snow and ice cover in the state. Its cool to see that the southern extent is so linear!

Plenty of hvy snow with this system, but no whiteout conditions mostly due to lack of strong winds. The March '08 system was a different story.

I am not sure what qualifies as whiteout conditions officially.  However, I know that we got 5" in just over 2.5 hours early Fri afternoon.  At times you could not see 250 yards.  I'm a deer hunter and have ranged all the woods lines from my front porch.  ;D

Me either but I know at one point I could barely see a tree line that is  about 400 feet from my house. Anyways, I'm surprised things arent really melting like I expected them to even though we are in the mid 30's. The only places that are really melting are the rooftops, the ice on the trees, and the tracks of snow in the road where people have driven, but even that is occurring less than I expected.

That layer of ice that came down Friday night is doing a good job keeping the snow underneath from melting.  Should see some real melting tomorrow with highs in the mid-40s.

We have an average of 6 in here in Colinial Heights. The roads are pretty clear now. Wasn't as much as predicted but that's probably a good thing. I went "snow chasing' with a friend and am in the process of posting my video clips and pics online.

Hey Extremewxlover, I'm still kinda new around here, but here was a statement made by OHX earlier this AM. This may help answer your question as to why temps. got warmer today than previously thought.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NASHVILLE TN
1010 AM CST SUN JAN 31 2010

.UPDATE...
CURRENT TEMPS:BNA - 24 CSV - 23 CKV - 18. THESE TEMPS ARE SEVERAL
DEGREES AHEAD OF WHAT MOS PREDICTED. GIVEN THE FULL SUN OVER THE
AREA AND THE LACK OF SGFNT ADVECTION IN THE BOUNDARY LAYER WILL
WARM UP HIGHER THAT GUIDANCE. THUS WILL RAISE MAX TEMPS SEVERAL
DEGREES FROM PREVIOUS FCST. OTHERWISE...NO CHANGES.

Yes.  By far the longest thread in TennesseeWx.com forum history.

There was apparently a severe ice storm on top of Lookout Mountain after the snow turned to rain in the valley Friday night. The temp never went above freezing on the mountain, and from what I can tell, they got about .8  of ZR on top of 5 inches of snow. That spells disaster.
