12/19-12/21 Weekend Snow?
« on: December 08, 2009, 04:28:29 PM »
12/8 12Z GFS and 12Z Euro appear to show a Miller A type system that would give us in TN measurable snowfall around 12/16 (next Wednesday). The GFS shows a monster snowstorm for the mid Atlantic and Northeast but of course this is still a week away.

Déjà vu?

As said above we're still a week out, but dagum that would be fun to see if we get everything in the right place this time.

From what I have saw/heard there should be some extremely cold weather in place for whatever may come through. Maybe this will pan out.

LOL, yeah I've already seen that.  I guess last winter was a West Tn special and this one will be an East Tn special.  Sounds about right for those of us living in the middle.   ::shrug::   ::bagoverhead::

Looks like the models are going to give us **** rain for that one as well, maybe a little wrap around snow.  We just can't get the freezing line to come down further south.  Of course models will be off but I see no reason for something like this week to be broken.

I hate to say it (or love to) but it looks to me like were going to need that real chilly are that's supposed to start coming down around dec 20 before we can bring up the S word again.

Hmm, wasn't really spectin' that. It's like were given a choice between cold and dry or warm and rain.

0z GFS sucks for any wintry precip. The arctic air mass and precip just dont want to take the plunge.

EDIT: the more I look at this run in the longer term (vood-ville), it just looks wrong. No way moisture pools in West TX for 5 days straight before Christmas, then just disappears. The overall pattern is still chilly and I cant imagine something not coming out of the SW US eventuallly.

Frank Strait over at Accuweather  (yeah, yeah, i know ... Hackuweather !!!) .... anyways, in his video blog last night he talks about the possibility of backside snow in Arkansas and Tennessee from next Wednesdays system.  But, as always, the devil will be in the timing.

Maybe the arctic express is waiting until Christmas week to pay us a visit.  Hopefully when it does, there won't be a lot of nice cold air going to waste like there was last winter.  Man, that was frustrating.

::wow:: at the temperature outlook for the rest of this month. The long-range GFS is showing zero storm threats for our area over next two weeks, sans the event in question next week, but we may be setting ourselves up for one of the coldest two-week stretches we've seen in December in a lot of years, if things pan out.

If the groundwork of cold air can be laid down, then perhaps we might get some lower scale features and disturbances that the models can't see now.  It will all change some as the runs go by.
