Where are the cold temperatures
«

this fall temperatures have feel to achieve widepsread freezing conditions.
although we have had frosts and freezes, where is the heavy stuff. where are the twentys. the nashville airport have yet to reach the 20's. memphis tn, has barely gotten into the thirties.
what's up with this stretch of moderate weather.
has this ever happened before. is this a record of prolonges not being below feezing
where is the cold stuff. i remember by nover 25 and earlier last year, temps dropped into the teens and even single digits for some. that was like the coldest november temp i ever saw.
will it ever become colder, or is the cold air still building up. to come as fierce as it can

Keep in mind that it's still the middle of November...and it's still fall. The midstate area typically sees its most cold temps from late December to mid-February...like during the WINTER months.

One year we didn't have a widespread freeze or even frost till December 8th I don't know what year that was, but I was told by all the locals that some years we didn't have a freeze till December

Always read through what you type at least once before you click that Post button.
You'll prevent some obvious spelling errors that way.
Also, what's with the poll?

But I can answer where are the cold temps.

Latest Freeze/Average date of first freeze for MEG area:
Memphis Dec 11,
1994
/ Nov 12
Jackson, TN Nov 28, 2004/ Oct 29
Jonesboro, AR Dec 14, 1901/ Nov 2
Tupelo, MS Dec 2, 1946 / Oct28
MEG - Agricenter Nov 28, 2004/ Nov 4th
I dont think Mermphis will make it that long, but the NWS Memphis at the agricenter may. 1994-95 was a moderate El nino, although there are no two years exactly alike. I am not sure if 94-95 has been mentioned as an analog. Snowfall was actually pretty decent for some of the area that winter.

94-95 was horrid in Nashville and esp in West KY. Hopkinsville only got 1.5 inches of snow. Evansville IN which averages 14.2 inches of snow only received around 3 inches for the winter.
Temps were around average to slightly above though so it wasn't a big time torch. It just seemed the cold air and moisture never meet right the entire winter.
November 1994 is close to November 2009 and we may be heading towards a top 10 warm month depends on what happens at the second half of this month..

i love snow just as much as a little boy. i have seen some good winters especially in the 70 s and the 80 s. got a bad feeling this is going to be a mild winter. i just dont see much below temps this year or much snow. hope i am wrong for us snow lovers. i be more worried about severe weather if these temps keep warm.

Me thinks me see a pattern change in the long term near or after Thanksgiving. I am NOT saying it will snow on Nov twenty-whatever, but sure looks like a change to cold sometime around that time. The models seem to keep bringing up the idea that there will be a change(ie major US trough from intermountain west to the east coast), not sure when though.

I'm actually enjoying this nice November weather. Today's the perfect day to do one final yard work/mowing day for the season.
Looks like two nice weekends in a row. Enjoy it while we have it.

Man... people are so picky.
We've been right at average, or below average since July this year.
We're due for a little above average temperatures. Sometimes its called indian summer, but sheesh, if indian summer is a high of 72, I'm actually worried about how cold the winter will be. I've seen plenty of near 80 degree days in November, and some over 80. Normally preceeded by a big pattern change and tornados. And in all honesty, I'd be worried about the winter being blowtorched if we stayed cold through november. The pattern has to reload in order for the really cold air to back build. It is currently, and I imagine if the prevailing pattern for this year really (which I believe has to do with the solar minimum) takes hold again in mid Dec and January, its gonna be chilly.
Lets enjoy this quasi warm up while it lasts, get out and play golf or do some yard work.

Anybody here subscribe to the belief that soil moisture is keeping us warmer at night than normal? Sounds reasonable to me. After Ida, we need only .40 inches of rain before Dec 31st to end the year at normal. Considering we were in a double digit deficit halfway through september, that is a lot of moisture. I think that the major reporting stations would have all been below freezing back during that October cold snap if the ground hadn't been so wet. I had my freeze that night at 30.4 degrees, but KCHA didn't.

Well dont label me as one who is not enjoying this weather and sitting on pins and needles for cold. Today is awesome and I am blowing off the yardwork in favor for a hike and bike, then a nap in the hammock.

I agree with Justin. We could be going through our second tornado season right now.
