Just got through reading the paper, and it was very informative and well-written. Those affected by the Outbreak can attest to the fierceness of the storms that rolled through, but synoptically speaking, this was a "Perfect Storm" type scenario...maybe a once in a century type of event. Every component needed for a severe weather outbreak arrived/developed right on time over the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys. I do recommend taking a couple of minutes out of your day and reading through it.
Also, if anyone has ever wondered what a "loaded gun" skew-T is, the authors included a diagram of an actual skew-T from BNA taken the morning of April 3, 1974. Take a look....
