I'm no expert, but I feel this is the best shot we've had this decade. Perhaps we could rival the winter of 02-03 or even 96 with a good snow.

Great winter which was probably the best in my lifetime so far. Unfortunately is no comparison to this winter as it was a weak to moderate la nina.

Wasn't around for that one or any of the rediculous winters of the 70s. 96 and 03 is all I can say I remember. I can't imagine though.

yeah, but i have seen this upcoming winter compared to 76-77 in some analogs. man that was a big time winter too. i was a 6 th grader that year. missed many days of school for big snow. i remember a older friend drove his volkswagon across a pretty deep pond that year. thought he was crazy, but the ice never buckled. all of january nearly stayed below freezing.

Winter of 84-85 was great! I was in the 8th grade and we were out of school for 4 straight weeks!

Not unheard of around these parts from time to time. NE Arkansas  (Jonesboro) I know was out for a few weeks following last winters ice storm.

I'm a little leery of the comparisons between this upcoming winter and the winters of the mid to late '70s. We typically don't fare all that well in a moderate Nino. I would feel much more comfortable if the +ENSO would begin to relax, pronto.

Of course, there are lots of factors other than the ENSO phase that could play a role in this winter, so it's going to be interesting to watch. IMO, we have one good memorable snow with multiple bouts of warmer-than-average weather and some cold shots interjected, rather than an open pipeline from the arctics and repeated winter weather threats.

One blockbuster event can make a winter around here.  I'm rooting on things coming together just right at least once for a good event.

But, usually, when we get one good event, there are usually two or three secondary decent events.

i am rooting for more than one good event. got that last year when i got a foot on feb 28th.  if they compare this upcoming winter to one of the mid to late 70s i take it in a new york second. it was one after another then, thats what i hoping for this winter. all we need is the cold air. cause its going to be plenty wet, book  it.

I've been hopeful for so many winters only to be let down, that I set my expectations low.  ;)

But, it will be nice if you are right, tnstorm09.
