MAJOR ridging out west! 546 line right through nashville. Thickness and 850mb temps show snow storm for Chicago...  I am eager to see the 12Z Euro.... Hint Hint enjoy the eye candy before the winter season starts :)

Nice looking ridge out west.  I'd like to see that take hold all winter long.   ::snowman::

Well tuesday morning turned out to be the coolest for me. Yesterday and today provided the same low of exactly 50.0 degrees. Not sure why that happened, there was more wind Tuesday morning, and I typically do very well (6+ degrees cooler than KCHA) in radiational cooling situations. I'm located in a sort of dimple on top of a hill at almost exactly 1000 ft in elevation. Back in January I hit 2.6 degrees when the airport only hit 10.
That's your problem. Cool air pools in valleys, not ridge tops and a temperature inversion likely formed. While you'll be glad you have that extra bit of elevation when the next winter wx system rolls through, on clear radiational cooling nights, like I said, ridges are usually warmer sometimes by 10º or more.

Here is some evidence of that as recorded by some PWSs this morning. They are 2 miles apart but "Heritage" sits at 1058 ft ASL and "Tanyard Springs sits at 800 ft ASL.

Heritage's (low 53º)

TS (Low 48º)

Like I said, Eye candy! Euro and GFS do not agree right now. I was pretty sure this is what the Euro was going to depict today.

Wow. .. That is nice to see. Yea its along way out and odds are this time of year it don't pan out but it is very refreshing seeing winter weather potential once again. And hey maybe something crazy happens who knows.

I guess if it's happened then it's happen but its just hard for me to imagine snow falling in Nashville in October, let alone Memphis. It sure would be strange!

I remember a dusting of snow on the ground on Halloween morning one year in the early 90s.

It was strange since the leaves weren't completely off the trees yet.
