Amen Nashville WX :
We might set or tie a Record Coldest Lo Sunday Morning here in Jackson, Tn
I`m expecting a Lo of 56 °  ::cold::
The Current Record Coldest Lo is 55 ° set back in 1956. ::cold::
As of 3:23 p.m. today the Hi is 79 °
Today in 2007 just two years ago the Hi was 103 °
Wow what a difference two years can make.

Low of 54.6 here outside of Lewisburg.  Nice!

I went to 59º but the thick clouds especially across Northern Middle TN have held my high to only 70º so far.

I believe temps will be a hair cooler tonight than this morning because we will be directly under the high pressure center allowing for lighter winds and greater radiational cooling.

Here's my weather graph.

The Bellevue station runs a degree or 2 cooler than I do on radiational cooling nights. I'm right on the edge of the BNA UHI. Literally if you drive north from where I am it will slowly start warming. It's pretty neat. While I am far enough outside of the urban center Nashville (5 miles or so) that I see little effect from the UHI, Bellevue is probably a good 9 or 10 miles outside of downtown. At the same time, There is a station over by Belmont that always runs warmer than I do on clear nights. PWSs are good sources for local climatological knowledge.

You always come in frigid on clear nights. Do you sit on a valley floor or something?

You always come in frigid on clear nights. Do you sit on a valley floor or something?

My house sits 1/2 mile from the nearest paved road and is surrounded on three sides by woods and a field on the other.  The house itself sits on a small level area on the side of a ridge.  Bottom elevation below the house is about 860(it gets even colder down there in the hollow), house and temp sensor is around 950, and the elevation goes up in my backyard to nearly 1200 on the back ridge.  I am only a mile or two from the coop observation site at the Lewisburg Ag Experiment station.  My temps seem to mirror the hourly and high/low temps from there pretty close.  However, if any wind gets up at all I will be warmer, I assume because of my elevation.  For example, this morning the official low for the Lewisburg Ag Dairy was again 52 while mine was 60.  The two previous mornings I had virtually identical readings to the Ag Station.

Interestingly, I have repeatedly noticed that the hourly temp reports will average cooler in southern mid TN on calm clear nights.  I am guessing that it is due to the varying topography in our area, a greater % of wooded habitat, and less influence from any UHIs.

I moved 50 miles south of the Nashville area 11 years ago and since that time it seems to be consistently cooler down here and we've got quite a bit more snowfall.  The snowfall thing is likely just coincidence unless my elevation and distance from the UHI is helping slightly.

BTW, I know the Oak Hill area pretty well since I graduated from Brentwood High and Lipscomb Univ.  Nice part of Davidson county, I love the hills!

My AC has been off since last Friday and it looks to get another break the first of next week.  Is it really August?  ;D

Coach B : I believe All Experimental Coop Stations Make their 24 hour Observations at about 8 a.m. daily. rather than at Midnight.
So If the lo was 52 ° at 8 a.m. yesterday that could be recorded as the low from 8 a.m. yesterday to 8 a.m. this morning.
That can sometimes place the lo on a different given day.
That may be why you were 8 degrees warmer today than yesterday.
It sounds a little confusing sometimes.
Thats is why I make mine at midnight.
That is also why my Lo and Hi is not always the same as Jackson`s Exp. Station.
I live about 3 miles SE of Jacksons Exp. Station.
My guess is that the 8 a.m. hour is more easier for the N.W.S. to collect Daily Data at 8 a.m. rather than Midnight.
Since more observers are awake at 8 a.m. than at midnight.
