Trigonometry is your friend... just look at what it says about future snowfall averages.  ::snowman:: ::pirate::

You'll get no sympathy from me. I already served my time.

And I was smart enough to avoid trig. It was all I could do to get through Algebra II. ;D

alas, its my life as an engineer relies on it as well.  ::coffee::
Just don't ask me to do it in my head anymore. Too old for that.

LOL. I feel sorry for the newcomers into my High School. They have to endure Physics, Calculus, Trig, Stats, in addition to the basic Algebra 1/2 and Geometry. Not that it would hurt me to do it; I'm a straight A student so I could do well in that. But people that struggle with PreAlgebra will be in a world of hurt.

Back to Winter, a local met just said the long term oscillations (outlook) shows NO more cold snaps, and in fact, warming temps. Just throwing that out there.

I know. They did it to my friend who's a Freshman this year and he says that its gonna be a long ride for him, but I believe as long as you do your work as good as you can, then the teachers won't be overly harsh. They understand that their class is a hard class, and that students didn't have a choice of whether or not to take them. So they'll be a tad easier.

How come school counties in the cumberland plateau closes all the times it snow? they get more snow than washington dc and new york in a whole season, who barely close schools.

and it snows frequently in the cumberland plateau, shouldn't they be used to it, just like northerners?

putnam country and them been out for like 20 days this winter

Very, very good question (at least to me it is)... the roads down here are worse than Northern roads, in that it is more elevated in parts (Plateau is more elevated than DC/Baltimore area, except Mountains in W. Maryland who close like here). They also have a special tax for snow plows to clear roads, while down here TDOT does the job, but they can't put much into it as they're on a budget. I know this because I am from there.

Was out running around this evening and saw the greatest instance of Nashville's gigantic heat island I have so far. As high as 50º downtown and as low as 34º in Brentwood. That 16º over a span of 6 or 7 miles.

We've missed 14 days in Putnam COUNTY...our school calendar had 13 days built in, so only have to make up one day. As far as why we're out, we OBVIOUSLY get more snow here than most of the counties at the lower elevations.

We also have a unique 800+ foot rise in elevation due to the Cumberland Plateau. On the plateau is one of our towns in our county which has 3 schools. Had it just been Cookeville City Schools, we probably would have only missed less than half the number of days.

Our Superintendent believes in being safe rather than sorry and I support her decisions. Until you've had to make that decision from that seat, it is hard to understand.

By the way, it is impossible for TDOT or our County to cover every road that a school bus would travel. Total snow for this winter season stands at 12.5" in Cookeville, more up in Monterey.
