Current snow depth atop Mt. Leconte: 50 inches and its still snowing.

I got to see Mt. Leconte this past weekend (not go on top of it, but just saw it) and it was beautiful to see the snow covered peaks. One reason why the mountains is my all time favorite travel location...I would chose it over Hawaii or any other beachy area any day.

So when are folks gonna start talking about the potential GFS snow storm for the SE between 3/14-18?  (just kidding...kinda)

Oh Lordy. If it looks like a direct all snow hit for Nashville on multiple March 12 model runs, wake me up... otherwise I'll check back in eight months.

I'm on the long haul, count me in on the train. While I love snow more than T-storms, I think T-storms are an incredible piece of nature sent from God above.

The hike up and overnight at Mt. Leconte is on my bucket list along with a winter's night stay up on Mt. Washington in New Hampshire. All of us weather nuts have to do that ONCE in our lives!

Mt. Leconte has had snow cover since early December.  I was at Ober Gatlinburg tonight which is 3000 feet and it was snowing pretty good with about 6 inches or so on the ground.  I'm sure it was dumping on Leconte.  There should be snow on the ground up there well into April.  I've hiked Mt. Leconte 3 times and if you ever get the chance do it.  It's an amazing experience and the climate above 6000 feet is unlike anything else you will find in the southeast.  Interesting fact about Leconte is that is has NEVER hit 80 degrees there in it's recorded history.  I've hiked it in the summer when it has been in the upper 50's up there while 90 in Pigeon Forge.

Finished out the March 2 storm with 4.4" according to my neighbors measurement. It had melted down to 3" by the time I got home. Some places reported 5". I think officially Chattanooga airport had 2.9" on March 2 according to WeatherUderground and local NBC. The local ABC station gave it 1" officially, not taking in what melted. Totals for my house this year ended up being 17.3". Not too shabby for this area. Really only had 1 "GOOD" snow that stuck around for several days and that was Jan. 29 storm. Stayed on ground for 5 days. The Feb 15 time frame gave us a few days of snow showers with about 3-4" total. Not banking on anymore snow this year but you never know. The March 16-18 frame just looks WAY too warm.

Dropped Weasel off his beverages and gave him a "high 5" yesterday. Weasel had no comment on any snow in the near future. Said he would play it by ear. Nothing at the moment from the animals and his feeder indicating snow at the moment.
Still in limbo with Allstate regarding my structural damage from 4/27

One of the advantages of living where I do---I get to see it everyday.  I live about 10 miles from the mountains--as the crow flies. Wish I lived ON one of them.  Then I could brag about all the snow I got...heh heh.   ;D

Anyone else noticed the storm in the 3/11-12 timeframe? Surface temps may be too warm... but it looks like it could be another shot of snow.

Being modeled super weird on the gfs though... looks to be a strong storm, regardless... 992mb low pressure moving through the southeast with a GIANT circulation.
